While the Ford Fiesta ST hatchback is not the fastest car on the list, or the cheapest car on the list, it does combine speed, elegance and value for money like no other hatchback on offer in 2016. Featuring a turbocharged 180bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine, this hot hatchback is capable of going 0-100kmp/h in under 7 seconds! 6.9 seconds to be exact! If you’re an adrenaline junky in it for the thrills you can always shell out for the limited edition Fiesta ST200 which is capable of completing the same feat in only 6.2 seconds! While the three-door nature of this hatchback may put some people off, others are attracted to its supermini nature – usually those who won’t be spending much time in the close confines of the back seat.

2. Peugeot 208 GTi hatchback

Another three-door hot hatchback, the Peugeot 208 GTi is our first runner up! The Peugeot 208 is a sprinter!
